Strut Your Mutt a Howling Success

Those who attended Strut Your Mutt at Brookdale Park this past Saturday enjoyed beautiful weather and an astounding array of doggie costumes, ranging from cute to highly creative. Baristanet posted a nice write up and slideshow, as did dog park friend Beth Burstein. We were too busy videotaping to get many still photos, so check out these other sites while you wait for our parade presentation.

Dog Found Roaming in Brookdale Park

Wednesday morning (Oct. 10) our friend Mary found a young, sweet, beautiful and very sociable male pitbull mix at Brookdale yesterday. She brought him to the dog park while  contacting Montclair Police, Glen Ridge Police, Paws, Montclair Animal Shelter and Bloomfield Animal Shelter. Bloomfield was the only shelter who responded.

Mary says the dog is very sweet, social and affectionate. We are all  hoping that if his owner does not step up and reclaim him, that possibly someone else might be willing to adopt him.

Strut Your Mutt on October 20!

It’s coming up! Are you and your dog ready?

Strut Your Mutt, a free Halloween parade for dogs only, will be taking place in Brookdale Park, on Saturday, October 20, at 10 AM (registration begins at 9:30).  Dog owners are encouraged to dress up their dogs and compete for prizes in a variety of categories. Consider yourself invited by Joe DiVincenzo himself, along with some other county officials. Here’s what Joe had to say before last year’s event:

“The Canine Costume Parades are growing into a favorite Halloween celebration for everyone to enjoy. Whether you own a dog or not, I invite you to come see creative costumes worn by dogs of all breeds.”

If you can’t make it to the park that early, there’s an afternoon parade at the Essex County South Mountain Dog Park, with registration beginning at 1:15 and the parade commencing at 2.

For pics from last year’s parade, check out Baristanet’s coverage here.

For more info, check out the county page, which has a link to a poster for the event.

Hope to see you there!

Dog Park Closed Thursday August 23

We saw the sign up yesterday and thought to inquire. Here is the email response we received:

Ms. Furnari:

The County Executive forwarded your e-mail and asked me to respond.

On Thursday, August 23rd, the Brookdale Dog Park will be closed for maintenance, so we can pull weeds, cut grass, etc. We apologize for the inconvenience.

No word on how many hours this will take, but forewarned is forearmed.
